Shakeout 2011 Student Film #1 – Kevin Verdugo
Every October, California officials set aside a day to urge residents to prepare for earthquakes. Hundreds of thousands of Californians sign up on line and participate in statewide drills. In offices, schools, homes and stores, many practice Drop, Cover and Hold On – the most effective response when the ground starts shaking.
In 2011, California Fire Prevention Organization and the Los Angeles Fire Department organized an earthquake education presentation, and full-on emergency drill at Bushnell Elementary School. The objectives – to teach kids and their families about the importance of earthquake preparedness, and to give California Fire Prevention Organization, CERT and the LAFD a chance to train in emergency earthquake response.
We gave a camera to 6th grader Kevin Verdugo, and here’s his report from the field.
